Taipei Mayor Hau now is a senior official in the KMT and spoke out today in favor of reforms that would make the issue for the economically disavantaged to survive.

For Taiwan's monthly minimun wage now just over 19,000 NT.

Hao said this amount does not reflect recent price rises on necessities such as foostuffs.

For the first time as KMT vice chairman, Hau attented the Party's Central Standing Committee meeting(國民黨中常委委員會)

Hau urged new standards for how the minimun wage is calculated.

Hau: when the Consumer Price Index rise remains under 3%, the committee which handles rises un the minimun wage doesn't meet.

A past ten years just once has CPI exceeded 3%. 

The minimun wage is no longer able to reflect to the rises in the cost of consumer goods.

According to the latest data from the government's statistics bureau, the consumer prices in April rose 1.65%, compared to a year ealier. 

More troubling is that foodstuffs' prices were up more than 5%.

the Ministry of Economic Affairs says it is urging entreprices to provide better pay to workers.

the Ministry of Economic: From last year to now, the response from enterprices, especially mid-to-large-sized ones, has been positive.

but some mid-to-small-sized, enterprices are more conservative when it comes to the topic of rises.

One comapcy being watched is pxmart, which today announced plans to hire 2200 new stuff.

it starts floor staffs out at 23000 NT a month, lower than competitor Simple Mart.

Pxmart: We are quickly expanding our number of stores, so promotion will also be accelerated.

In the next year, we will need to promote 80-90 store managers.

In response to Hau's request, Labour Minister Pang said his agency will soon gather experts to research the possibility of regional-based minimun wage system.
